Always keep your receipts! Saving your receipts for any and all qualified medical expenses means you'll be ready for a potential IRS audit.
Receipt Uploads
The platform doesn't require you to upload a receipt at the time of a transaction — it's not mandatory. That said, we highly encourage saving one for every qualified medical expense, since it's your best protection if the IRS ever asks you to substantiate a transaction later.
Why it matters
Non-qualified withdrawals carry a 20% IRS penalty on top of income tax.
Lost your receipt? Here are your options
Request a copy. Reach out to your doctor's office, medical facility, or merchant. Most providers can generate a historical receipt for exactly this purpose. We recommend trying this first.
Correct the undocumented expense. If you can't validate the transaction with a receipt, you can recategorize it and redeposit the funds to avoid a penalty. If you choose to leave the expense as-is, you risk being penalized in an audit.
